As the “Father of Advertising”, Ogilvy founded Ogilvy & Mather and spawned a whole generation of human beings that just did their thing differently. His effect on how things got done can be compared to the amazing impact the internet has had in our generation. Things just would never be the same again.

He was radical and refused to bow down to pressures of the culture of the time.

I don’t know the rules of grammar. If you’re trying to persuade people to do something, or buy something, it seems to me you should use their language.”

He lived life on his terms, refusing to be shackled by serious grown-ups in a professional world who simply went about their lives on auto-pilot. Apparently, children laugh 400 times a day – but adults hardly laugh 15 times. Ogilvy was in touch with who he was.

The best ideas come as jokes. Make your thinking as funny as possible.”

And this was balanced out by his ability to conduct his background research impeccably.

I prefer the discipline of knowledge to the anarchy of ignorance.”

Though he was a force to reckon with, in the world of Advertising, his advice is fundamental for all industries.
