  5. I met Gerald in 2004, I had just joined Ungana-Young Friends of AMREF – he was working at KeNAAM. What captured my heart is a man who epitomizes humility, patience and due diligence.

Deep inside, I knew this was the man I wanted to have as a friend; even if it meant ‘pushing’ for it. I did NOT have to do that, it came out of Gerald’s passion and commitment to develop aspiring leaders. He has a hawk eye in establishing strengths and weaknesses and the resolve to walk the rugged path of personal/career development with you.

He has always been my Mentor which eventually motivated me to be one. I’m happy and blessed to work alongside him as part of volunteer mentors at Kenya Youth Business Trust (KYBT) where we empower young men in entrepreneurship. We have learnt in order to receive one has to give of themselves and in giving, you serve God’s people.

Gerald holds deeply rooted family values and high integrity which just makes his leadership and professional standing above board.

It may please you to know that, even though WDS Africa is a business entity, Gerald would always negotiate his charges to meet your ability; while still offering the very best of service. This is out of his commitment to raise a new breed of strategic leaders, both young and old.

Gerald Walterfang is a man I endorse and reccommend to you with much ease and out of an honest heart. Grab your earliest appointment with him for the great transformation you have ever been yearning for…

    God bless you Mentor!

As such, he has been a real inspiration and teacher that though things may not work or be moving along the direction you desire, you should never give up in trying to achieve that, that you desire.

A leader and team player are the immediate words that come to mind when asked to describe Gerald. I know he would say at this point that he is a Father and a Husband first and i do not disagree, just that in his being a father and a husband he brings out the qualities of leadership and a team player for both his family and the general populace.

I’m honoured to have met Gerald and to be challenged to live up to his standards. A dear friend and a great leader to all. Thank You Gerald for being that person.

  12. Gerald is a leader not because of his titles but it is his character and that has inspired me a lot. I met him at The Game Changer, a Men of Purpose – Kenya program where we got to interact and share our lives.
Gerald is passionate about people, his country and what he does. He is out to bring out the best in people regardless of the cultural differences, age, gender, origin, etc. About the environment, he takes personal initiative to contribute to a better place even when faced with opposition or ridicule. This is the reason he is involved in the developments mentioned by those he has worked with. I found this quite intriguing as this is what it means to be a leader and I want to be mentored by this caliber of a leader.
Gerald is a mentor, a father figure, a leader, a team player, seasoned communicator, a coach, initiative and a friend.

  18. Describing Gerald to me is inevitable, and it is invariably recurring every time my boss comments on my performance at work. Its because of him i am really the best in the market regarding my career.
In 1998 my first competition in Fitness and body building held in carnivore restaurant, I was a very disappointed man when i was told not even to go to the back stage and wait for the next round but instead i was ruthlessly shown the door to the changing room. Little did i know that there was someone who saw a difference in me. Being then the National secretary of KBBF (Kenya Body Building Federation), Gerald walked into the changing room and gave me a pat on the back, and told me ” Young man, I have seen a future champion in you and a trainer of trainers so don’t give up there is always next time”
Gerald is the best mentor i have ever encountered, I wish you the very best in your ventures and you will always have my support.
    God be with you Gerald.

He was so ready to give back to his former school and he introduced me to hundred of other alumni, meaning he had kept in touch. I found this impressive and later engaged him on the career coaching bit.

As a career coach , Gerald is a good listener and his feedback on the litany of career concerns I raised was honest . As a young person tasked with leadership I went through this really scary overwhelming phase. Sessions with Gerald helped me strike a balance where I am confident in my ability to deliver yet accepting of my inexperience. I am more relaxed ,confident and easily reach out for help without feeling incompetent and getting better at this whole leadership thing.

Gerald is one of the few great people this country have. His profile is very long whereby if I start writing for the 20 years I have known him, it will be more than 500 page book. From Khalsa primary school he was a leader, then Highway High School, Nairobi School to Victoria University in Canada and Finally Leeds University in UK.
Gerald is one of those few Kenyans who chose not to forget his roots by coming back to develop Kenya instead of working in Canada or UK where there were so many job opportunities.
In 1996, through AMREF, he was among the first people to create UNGANA-YOUNG FRIENDS of AMREF, a volunteer group geared towards empowering young professions to volunteer not only for AMREF but other similar NGO’s. which today has over 10,000 members. In this group Gerald is remembered to encourage young volunteers by this slogan “it takes you a short time to volunteer, but it creates long term job opportunities”. He helped the group discover a street children home today named “Dagoreti Child in Need Program”, which was adopted by AMREF Kenya and is a show case in how to rehabilitate street children. As a leader within Ungana, he represented the youth organization in United Nations Youth Forum where again he was selected a leader to bring together different youth groups, where he worked with Juma Assiago, Mr.Oben of UNEP and Hon.Balala then Mayor of Mombasa (and was passionate about youth).
Through Ungana, Gerald became CEO of KeNAAM which had it humble beginnings at AMREF (itself a board member of KeNAAM, dealing with awareness of Malaria not only in Kenya but all over Africa and the world. With leadership skills at KeNAAM, this was after his tenure at Mennonite Central Committee Kenya where he was the Logistics & Accounts Officer. During my visits to Gerald in these places I noted how he passionately would mentor and coach others. I therefore did not wonder when he was selected to lead both HelpAge Kenya and Viwango. Gerald has a very strong sense of cultural values and more so care for and respect for the young and elderly. The institutions he has served have left a mark locally and internationally.
From the the reputable NGOs that Gerald has served, he shared with me his vision of starting WDS Africa. Even before the creation of WDS Africa, Gerald had mentored so many people.

Last but not least, I met Gerald at Railways Gym early 1995. He was the most gentle and welcoming soul to the gym and quick to help you train in the proper way.Gerald observed that young people in the gym were not guided properly. He asked me that we both Volunteer with Kenya Body Building Federation (KBBF). His keeness on justice and rigour for rules and regulation saw us promoted to the Judges Panel Committee. Soon after we rose to through the ranks and Gerald was elected Treasurer, Secretary and finally Chairman of KBBF. He has a passion for sports, and was himself an excellent rugby, basketball, hockey player in addition to having been a great sprinter in school and university.

Gerald loves family! He always ask how your family is doing. His passion for family includes work-life balance and family well being. Thanks Gerald for this journey and I wish you well with WDS Africa.

“If you need someone to help you put your career, spiritual and social life in perspective, then no need to look any further. Gerald was able to help me on so many levels. He gave me the tools and guidance I needed to open the door to excellent life opportunities, using these tools, he got me thinking of where I want to be in the long term, how to make my strengths work for me, and helped me be optimistic in all my undertakings. I highly recommend him, and hope that others use his services to further their own career and aspirations in life. With his guidance and coaching I was able to consider opportunities and strengths I would not have otherwise thought I had or was capable of venturing into. I strongly advise you to make an appointment.”

  49. Gerald has a genuine, unassuming way of connecting with his audience, regardless of size. I have attended, for example, a session he facilitated to university students. He connected with them very effectively at their level, while simultaneously handling a complicated life concept very easy to understand. He conducts himself with respect and good decorum

  51. I have had the privilege of knowing Gerald for close to thirty five years. He has always been very passionate about people and genuinely interested in their well being. He is honest about himself and always willing to share his experiences in life which are a key ingredient for every mentor. Perhaps in another life he would have made a great psychologist. God knows best and am not the least surprised to find glowing tributes of what a great mentor he is. Am impressed by what he has accomplished over the years and yet still remained the humble, forthright, friendly Gero I have known since our childhood days. May our good Lord continue to expand your boundaries.

He is very kind and human. He sees great things in people who may be regarding themselves of less value or even marked ‘hopeless’. I personally, I regard him as trusted mentor! He does not hesitate to feel the hurt of others, he believes after the hurt comes Joy. He has helped me greatly to be whom I am today and to always see, feel and identify more potential in me while aggressively pursuing my personal growth & development. He has fear of God in him and that has made him a humble person who can work with people of all kinds and personalities. He does not discriminate on basis of race or tribe – he is a global person – I thank God for making Gerald the kind of person he is. I strongly recommend Gerald where integrity, respect and appreciations are upheld. It comes as no surprise that he followed his passion though establishment of WDS Africa Long live Gerald
